Former
Chair of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee
and
former Vice Mayor.
Vision for Herndon and my values:
I will continue to be the strong voice for change and progress. During my time serving the residents of Herndon, I have maintained and will continue to be the “Change Agent” Herndon needs to ensure long-term fiscal stability.
I am proud to have led the Town Council in creating and adopting the 2024-2029 Strategic Plan. Here is the full plan link:
TOWN OF HERNDON 2024-2029 STRATEGIC PLAN
I envision a Herndon where every resident feels safe and proudly calls it home. This includes prioritizing budgets and funding events catering to all residents, promoting affordable housing, and providing fair development opportunities. I see a town where balanced practices protect our environment and economic development benefits all community members. Through passionate leadership and devotion to openness, I am committed to making Herndon welcoming, vibrant, and inclusive.
I am eager to once again bring my enthusiasm, understanding, and values to the Herndon Town Council. With your support, I am confident we can continue the positive change that has been implemented and benefits all residents. Thank you for considering my candidacy, and I look forward to earning your trust and support.
I will continue to lead, embrace and consider all perspectives on the following initiatives.
Here is my plan for success:
Promote policies that increase safety and security in our neighborhoods.
Drive more events: Regional Pickleball tournaments and the “Tour de Herndon” Bicycle Race.
Advocate for expanded outdoor dining opportunities.
Champion responsible development practices, including workforce and affordable housing.
Prioritize expanding green spaces and implementing green technologies.
Advocate for the creation of more ADA-compliant areas and the implementation of traffic-calming solutions.
Continue updating and modernizing town ordinances.
Promote Herndon via new branding as a destination area.
My leadership on the Herndon Town Council centers on fiscal sustainability, modernization, and long-term planning, with a consistent focus on economic growth, transparency, public safety, and maintaining town services. I try to operate as a consensus-oriented, pro-development, budget-pragmatic councilmember rather than an ideological one.
My view on revenue growth and economic competitiveness: expand the tax base, modernize the rules, and keep Herndon competitive with nearby jurisdictions.
I raised concerns that town revenues are not growing fast enough to support increasing operating expenses and town services.
“My concern has always been our revenues are not increasing, and we can’t just keep raising taxes on residents to meet operating expenses…”
I advocate for modernizing zoning and regulations to help businesses grow and succeed.
Outdated ordinances “impact our revenue stream.”
Supported branding and positioning to attract investment.
Herndon must compete “for revenue, for dollars, for investment.” My view on long-term planning, transparency, and governance reform: improve how the town plans, communicates, and makes decisions. I pushed for and delivered:
Recording meetings with developers and stakeholders
Making public records easier to access
Requiring long-term planning from departments
Creating better coordination across the town government
Strategic planning processes
Five-year planning cycles
Better tracking of decisions and records
My view on public safety and neighborhood quality of life: increase visibility, enforcement, and neighborhood safety without overexpanding government.
Proposed increasing police visibility to address traffic and safety concerns.
Supported traffic-calming, pedestrian, and safety improvements.
Frequently tied safety to quality-of-life and property value stability.
My view on development, redevelopment, and downtown revitalization - Use redevelopment and modernization to grow the town’s economy. My positions associated with council work include:
Removing regulatory barriers to development
Encouraging mixed-use and housing options
Supporting redevelopment of downtown and Metro-area properties
Updating outdated building / business rules
Address old zoning rules that make it harder for businesses and residents to succeed.
I also led or supported strategic initiatives tied to:
Creating a long-term Strategic Plan for the Town. This is my biggest accomplishment!
Economic development
Branding / destination marketing
Events and tourism
Transit-oriented growth
Downtown redevelopment
Housing / zoning
Commercial growth
My view on community programs, inclusion, and town identity - Strengthen community engagement while keeping the town attractive to residents and businesses.
Supported funding for events and community programs
Advocated expanding festivals and town activities
Supported outreach to broader segments of the community
Town investment can reach a broader segment of residents. I also led and promoted:
Multicultural events
Outdoor dining / public space use
Parks and recreation access
Branding Herndon as a destination town
Quality-of-life initiatives
My approach to fiscal policy is pragmatic rather than ideological. Across budgets and policy debates, my record reflects this perspective:
Supported tax cuts when possible
Supported tax / fee increases when needed
Supported larger budgets tied to services and capital projects
Emphasized balancing services with revenue reality
My commitment is to maintain services, grow the tax base, avoid tax increases, and prevent sudden, large changes.
